E3 had his first piano recital in the end of April.  It was a big hit, ten minutes of lovely music followed by delicious treats.  My favorite number is The Caravan, the duet at the end.

Lucy football!

Here's Lucy looking so proud to be wearing Gabe's tee-ball helmet. (Gabe wanted me to title this entry "Lucy football," tee hee.)

Cherry Blossoms

Janna and I took our preschool kids to the Tidal Basin to see the cherry trees. It was a short but sweet trip. Gabe & McKay wove a story of epic battles all the way from the Jefferson Memorial to Hanes Point where the car was parked. And we even got to see a dead muskrat. ew.

Gabe's song

Here's a song Gabe made up in February:

I love you so much
and I love you, too, so much
I love you so much I can almost cry
but I can't
I really know that God loves us so much
I know that the prophet is true. The end.

There was a tune, but neither he nor I can remember it now. He made it up in the car on the way home from preschool and made me sing it for two days, correcting all my mistakes. Not having thought about it for awhile, tonight in his prayer he said "Thank you for the love song I made."

Kids in March

Gabe's about to play ball with a crumpled up piece of paper.

It was insanely warm for March--85 degrees! Lucy's coolest outfit was this sweet dress. I love her smile.

Lucy plucked a Yobaby yogurt container from the recycling. She loves them because they have a picture of a baby on them.

Strawberries in the dark

Last night I planted all 50 strawberry plants in the dark. It was getting pretty cold, too! But I'm proud of myself for getting those and our 2 new blueberry bushes in the ground. Now we have a strawberry hill and a blueberry hill.
Our veggie garden is germinating seeds of lettuce, kale, swiss chard, brussels sprouts, and sugar snap peas. I plan to get purple pole beans like we had two years ago--they grew gloriously and were beautiful raw in a salad. The herb garden now boasts an onion patch with common and Chinese chives, green onions, and the shallots and garlic I put in months ago. Those have tall stalks already because of the warm winter. And the iris bulbs I planted in the fall grew tall as early as the end of January, yet will they flower when the time comes? We'll see. I'm looking forward to a new flower bed I planted in the front garden as well. Next year I'll order some white daffodils with orange centers; they're my favorite jonquils right now.
